About us

Age UK Milton Keynes
  • We operate as an incorporated charity and belong to the UK's largest organisation working with and for older people. On Tuesday 1st June we changed our name to Age UK MIlton Keynes, having joined the Age UK partnership formed from the merger of Age Concern and Help the Aged. We continue to share the same values, standards and overall aim - to help all older people make more of life.
  • We have been working with local people since June 1978 and for every £1 given to the charity, we spend 90p directly on the crucial help we provide.
  • Our support and services make a real and positive difference to the quality of older people’s lives, particularly the most vulnerable and isolated.  We aim to be accountable for the funds we use, cost-effective in carrying out our role, professional in the way we work and transparent in all our activities. Every year we help over 10,000 people in Milton Keynes and surrounding villages.
  • Age UK MIlton Keynes has 257 employees, most of whom work part-time (January 2010).
  • We have over 450 hard working and dedicated volunteers without whom we could not exist.
  • Age UK MIlton Keynes is an independent organisation responsible for its own funds. An Executive Committee oversees the management of the organisation. Our current Chairman is Meg Bates and the Vice Chairman is Sue Graham.
  • Our services and activities are monitored and evaluated in the following ways:
    * Documented annual performance reviews for all our services, including periodic independent evaluation.
    * Measurement against internal Age Concern and external quality standards, including Quality Counts, CSCI and Foundations.
    * Net income achievements are measured against budgets and retail outlet targets set annually.
  • Our registered charity number is1079773 and we are registered as a company limited by guarantee 3897291 (Cardiff). Our registered office is at The Peartree Centre, 1 Chadds Lane, Peartree Bridge, Milton Keynes MK6 3EB.

  • We are a member of the Age Concern Federation (under review), which campaigns on behalf of older people nationally.  The Federation and the Age UK partnership provide vital services that help with daily living as welll as researching the needs and opinions of older people.  Age UK influences national and local government and the media and seeks out new and innovative ways to make a difference. We make a difference by shaping policy - for example, backing national campaigns on age discrimination and pensions, or campaigning locally.
  • We also work in partnership with other organisation such as Milton Keynes Council, the Milton Keynes Primary Care Trust and the Milton Keynes NHS Foundation Trust to try to make sure that local services meet the needs of local older people.
  • Age UK MIlton Keynes is an appointed representative of Age Concern Enterprises Limited which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority for insurance mediation.
